Suits you, Sir?

SHOCK, HORROR. Dredd's uniform has undergone a total re-design. Can it be true? What will the fans think? Has Tharg totally lost his alien marbles? Here's an exclusive preview of my cover artwork for this historical moment in the world of comics. I'm over-egging it a bit, aren't I? To see if I am, check out the 'Whole New Dredd' story ( Beautifully illustrated by the excellent David Roach) in next week's issue of 2000AD. Phew, I'm exhausted.

Awesome stuff Cliff - I caught a sneak peek at this uniform on the 2000AD online site a couple of days ago... VERY intriguing indeed!

Fun cover. I'd call that helmet "McCarthyesque".

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing the pencils and line art with us, they're always great to see!

That cover reminded me of the ones we used to get in the heyday of 2000ad. Great stuff!

If that doesn't sell some issues nothing will!

Love it! That's for letting all us 'Cliff-Hangers' in on the pencil stage. Just goes to show you're just like us really, only harder-working and more talented.

Were there other stages between these pencils and the inks? If so do you use a lightbox to do each stage or just keep it all on the same page?

This one is up there with my other favourite Cliff cover, the Sex Olympics. As for the new outfit, well I guess that's that and we'll all have to get used to it...

My dear Cliff Hangers! Oops, sorry, guys. Thanks for the comments. Mark, you've probably now seen that Brendan McCarthy was given credit for both the story idea and costume design. Adrian, I use the lightbox a lot. I scan in rough sketches and arrange the picture elements on computer, then print and lightbox. Apologies for taking so long to reply.

Thanx for the sketchwork Cliff- really appreciate seeing the preliminary work alot!

request time ...

any chance of the same for prog 1208 - mean machine and the Rain dogs prog cover for 1216.

BTW do you have any of the work for the Big Finish Audio CDs you did?

oh and before I forget - You did some superb covers for the Complete Judge Dredd in the early 90's ( CDJ #6,8,10,12,14,16 ) - do you have any of these in high resolution at all?

thanx again - your blog is appreciated! =)
