Dredd vs. The Terror-tubbies

This is from a long long time ago (but from THIS Galaxy). It was mainly a test page to see if I could colour my line art using watercolour paint on unstretched cartridge paper. The paper crinkled up too much and I abandoned the page, although I still like the idea of Dredd battling with crazed mutated Teletubbies. Of course It's an image you'll never see in the pages of 2000AD, as I'm sure the copyright holders (BBC?) would never give permission for their characters to be depicted in such an horrific and violent way. A shame though, as I think it could be a Dredd classic and fun to draw too (in my 'umble opinion.)

  1. That is supremly gorgeous Cliff. And regardless of how the page may have crinkled when wet, you seem to have been able to make a pretty good scan of it here.. so maybe you shouldn't dismiss the idea completely.

BTW, the combination of watercolor & black line reminds me of Serpieri, & there's no higher compliment as far as I'm concerned.

  2. Yeah, well spotted, Staz, I certainly was trying to ride on the coattails of Serpieri here. He's an amazing illustrator. Good job most of my favourite comic artists still all seem to wear coattails, I'd be stuffed if they didn't, or am I being too hard on myself there? No? Thought not. Heh!

  7. Stunning! really nice.
I remember seeing the Teletubbies for the first time one morning in a Leeds pub lodgings after a heavy night and thought I was having a nightmare.No-one believed me when I told them what I had seen for months until they eventually became popular.

It looks like Dredds having the same recurring nightmare.

    Lovely Cliff!

  10. Awesome work, Cliff, even in unfinished form.

Call it a homage and you can get away with a lot, though if you really want to test how far satire laws will cover your arse, turn the Teletubbies into Sendak's Wild Things and see how long it takes those movie people to send in the legbreakers.
