Judge Dredd cover sale

Here's a piece of work I'm offering up for sale. It's the original black & white line art (left image) featuring Judge Dredd which I drew for issue (Prog) 1333 of 2000ad.  I've recently found the preliminary sketches I produced for the cover, so they'll also be included in the sale.
The artwork is A3 size (420 x 297 mm) and was drawn on Daler/Rowney cartridge paper with Rotring technical pens filled with black FW Acrylic Ink.

I can be contacted through this Blog or on Facebook.

Cheers.

Dredd: "Get bidding now, Creeps!"

It's the last day of the auction, folks, but it's not too late to make that winning bid and make my impending 50th birthday even happier. The finishing time for the auction is today (19 Mar '12) at 21:31:11 GMT. Here's a link to my Ebay page for those of you who sensibly realise their lives will count for little should they fail to acquire this wonderful piece of original artwork by the LEGENDARY Cliff Robinson. Self opinionated? Moi?

Place your bids now...

This line art for one of my old Judge Dredd covers is now up for auction on Ebay
It's my first attempt at selling on Ebay. Fingers crossed. Let's see how it goes...

The Royal Mail have used Dredd's face and shoulders from this very cover to adorn one of their postage stamps, which is part of a new set of stamps celebrating 75 years of the Great British Comic (see picture). So this is a chance to own a real collector's item. I bet you can hardly wait to have the 'winning' bid.

Zbrush Dredd.

A while back, a gentleman called David Gonzalez contacted me and asked if he could have a go at creating a Zbrush version of my 'Judge Dredd versus Judge Death' commission picture. I told him it was okay to go ahead. Here is the finished CG model.

It looks pretty damn fine to me. Follow this link to the CGSociety website to see more pictures of David's amazing sculpt .

Also, here's David's sculpt on a CG 'turntable'. Very impressive work, Mr. Gonzalez.
All clever stuff. I'd like to have a go with that Zbrush software someday, but at around £500 I guess I'll have to start saving, sigh.

Couch Potatoes: The Return

Well, they returned a few weeks back now, but due to my tardy nature I'm only now posting about it.

JUDGE DREDD: PERSISTENT VEGETATIVE STATE,
was a two part Dredd story written by Gordon Rennie and featured those lovable potato men (or women. It's so hard to tell). These odd characters first appeared in 2000ad way back in...er, well it was a long time ago for sure. Maybe someone can tell me in 'comments'?

My preliminary sketches for the cover can be seen over on Pete Wells' blog
. Special mention for Dylan Teague who did a fantastic job on colouring this cover as well as the strip. Thanks, Dylan.

Tank Girl & Booga

It's been a while since I posted, so here's something I did a few months back.
I drew this for fellow comic creator Rufus Dayglo as a way of saying thanks for sending some work my way.

Dredd vs. The Terror-tubbies

This is from a long long time ago (but from THIS Galaxy). It was mainly a test page to see if I could colour my line art using watercolour paint on unstretched cartridge paper. The paper crinkled up too much and I abandoned the page, although I still like the idea of Dredd battling with crazed mutated Teletubbies. Of course It's an image you'll never see in the pages of 2000AD, as I'm sure the copyright holders (BBC?) would never give permission for their characters to be depicted in such an horrific and violent way. A shame though, as I think it could be a Dredd classic and fun to draw too (in my 'umble opinion.)

Commissions

The Captain Britain cover was drawn over a year ago and the 2000AD cover re-creation was finished just this week.

Fahrenheit 1671

Here is my cover artwork for the last episode of the Dragon's Den story (as drawn by the truly zarjaz artdroid, P.J. Holden). It's a Scorcher...er, sorry, couldn't resist that. Click here to be taken to Pete Wells' excellent '2000AD Covers Uncovered' site for a much clearer version of the cover (my scan on the right here is pretty bad) and to see the original line art and pencil rough.

Deadman sketch

I've made Boston Brand's head a little smaller on the right hand side duplicate sketch. Looks better to me. I think I may have made 'White Tack Man's' model head too large in the first place. Where's my scalpel and sandpaper? "NO, MASTER, DON'T DO IT, I BEG YOU, PLEASE, NO, NOOOAAAARGH!!!"

Spot the difference.

Here are the preliminary drawings for the Robot Archie, Judge Anderson and
Modesty Blaise commission featured a few posts ago. Looking afresh at these drawings and the finished art, I'm beginning to wonder whether I've drawn Modesty's waist just a tad too thin.

A new post (at last)

Apologies for not posting for a while.
I'm going to try and post up something new at least once a week from now on (have I said that before?) Here's a couple of very rough sketches drawn from my Plasticine/white tack man. Stop laughing.
Oh, for Batman's head (on the drawing below the photo's) I had to reference some Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez art as my original sketch of the Dark Knight's face and cowl was...er...crap. Well at least I was upfront about it, right?

The triumphant return of Mr. Plasticine!

...Okay, so Mr. Plasticine still has a hand and part of his left leg missing, but he was still useful for drawing these figures which feature in a new Dredd strip I'm currently working on. Some comic artists can draw pretty damn good figures without using any kind of reference, but sadly I'm not one of them. As I didn't sculpt Mr. P's head, can anyone recognize where I purloined it from? Apologies for not posting for such a long time!
